Healthy Day in The Life: Emma Dawson
Hi everyone, my name is Emma Dawson. I am from West Virginia and will be a freshman at the University of Kentucky this fall studying dietetics! As a young teenager I myself fell into bad regimens of fad diets, over exercising, body shaming, and poor self-esteem and confidence. It wasn’t until four years ago that I began living what I believe is the proper and healthy lifestyle for myself. My goal is to encourage others to live a healthy lifestyle too and to find what makes them feel their best and happiest!
My morning routine is quite simple and my favorite part of the day. Something I live by is drinking as much water as you can. That’s why as soon as I wake up I drink a huge glass of water first thing. Tip: fill a glass up the night before and leave it on your nightstand! This wakes me up, makes me feel rejuvenated, and sets me up to drink water and stay hydrated throughout the day. After brushing my teeth, washing my face, and throwing on a cute workout set I head straight for my morning coffee which I quite frankly can’t live without. Then, I'll grab something as easy as a piece of fruit or a hard-boiled egg and head onto my workout or run for the day.
I always look forward to having my post-workout refuel. I am a serious fruit and veggie lover and most of my meals are made up of them! I love to have Açaí bowls made with steamed then frozen zucchini, frozen banana, my favorite Sambazon Pure Unsweetened Açaí Pack, and sometimes even cacao powder for a chocolate Açaí bowl! The health benefits are endless and having an Açaí refreshment makes for the most wonderful post-workout treat.
Most days I have schoolwork that needs to be done. Taking that outdoors is crucial for me so that I can be productive and bring some vitamin D into my life. On days that I am off from school, like this summer, I am always finding something new to try and get into. Whether that be a yoga class, hike, walk, or swim with friends, I am someone who loves to be active and social every day.
For lunch, I always need a recharge that is going to give me energy and keep me full until dinner. I love fresh salads made with raw cucumber, tomato, snap peas, mushrooms, greens, avocado, and salmon. I make my own homemade lemon-tahini dressing to drizzle on top which makes the most refreshing and delicious mid-day meal.
I absolutely love taking my afternoons outside and using this time for myself. I typically go for a long walk every day. It not only clears my head and allows me to refresh and refocus for what my evening brings, but it also makes me feel accomplished and renewed mentally and physically. Sometimes I bring along a cozy homemade latte or iced coffee as a refreshment.
Depending on if I have had an Açaí bowl or smoothie bowl at this point, dinner is usually very simple and easy. Many times I will have an Açaí smoothie or bowl for dinner...but when I don't, I love to make zucchini noodles with tomato sauce and lean ground turkey or a roasted veggie nourish bowl with loads of fresh vegetables paired with a fish or piece of chicken. The perfect nightcap!
After taking time to shower, wash my face, and moisturize I love to get a lavender candle burning or my diffuser running with essential oils to relax. This is when I will also plan ahead for what is on my agenda the next day, lay out my workout clothes, sometimes do a face mask, spend time with my family, or watch some Netflix to wind down. Before heading to bed, I love to make myself a sweet treat/snack to wrap everything up. My go-to is a yummy bowl of Siggi’s greek yogurt topped with fresh berries or sliced peaches.
Living a health-conscious life has forever changed the way I live and I wouldn't ever change a thing! I feel my absolute best at this point and couldn't be happier than I am now with this routine. Everyday habits make all the difference in creating a lifestyle that makes you feel your healthiest and happiest. Thank you all so much for following along on how I go about my typical day.
